Harmonising data to better understand the actual chemical exposure of Europeans
The European Human Biomonitoring Initiative (HBM4EU) was the first large-scale European project aiming to harmonise measurements of exposure to chemicals in the population and assess the health effects of this exposure. Having started on 1 January 2017, it ended with a closing meeting in late June 2022. Below we look back at ANSES's contributions, which helped prioritise the substances to be studied and define guidance values associated with health risks for several substances.
ANSES is a partner of the International Equine Campus, whose first stone was laid today, 10 October. The campus will aim to give an international dimension to the Normandy site, which specialises in equine research and training.
Our laboratories look forward to seeing you at the Fête de la Science (French Science Festival)! On this occasion, you will have the opportunity to meet with our scientists, learn about their research topics, take part in activities on the prevention of food poisoning, attend workshops on plant parasites and antimicrobial resistance, and much more.
Tick-borne encephalitis : tracing the origin of cases of transmission via cheese
For the very first time, human cases of foodborne infection with tick-borne encephalitis virus were observed in France in 2020. Several ANSES laboratories responded in order to understand the circumstances, improve the detection of the virus in raw-milk products, and thus prevent the risk of similar cases occurring. The initial results of their work were recently published.
Recovery plan : Energy-efficiency refurbishment of two ANSES sites
As part of the State "France Relance" plan, two energy-efficiency refurbishment projects have been selected to receive a total of €107,174.40 in EU funding.
Aiming for better recognition of ovarian and laryngeal cancers related to asbestos exposure
The expert appraisal conducted by ANSES has concluded that there is a proven causal relationship between occupational exposure to asbestos and the risk of laryngeal and ovarian cancers. All the scientific evidence in this expert appraisal provides a compelling argument for the creation of occupational disease tables for both diseases in the agricultural and general social security schemes. These would facilitate their recognition and management. This recognition seems especially important given that patients, like doctors, rarely make the link between the occurrence of these types of cancer and exposure to asbestos.
Franck Fourès appointed Director of the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products
Franck Fourès was appointed Director of the French Agency for Veterinary Medicinal Products, part of ANSES, by order of the Ministers of Agriculture and Health, on 29 July 2022. He will take up his new position on 1 November 2022.
The data of the National Network for the Monitoring and Prevention of Occupational Diseases, led by ANSES, have highlighted differences in the industry sectors and environmental triggers of workers with occupational asthma.
